John & Betty Borland

Mrs Jackson is our classroom assistant.  Her father is John Borland who fought in the war and his mother was Betsy Borland.  Betsy Borland was born in Stonehaven but went to live in Glasgow when she got married.

This is her ration book from the war and two Christmas cards from her son.

John Borland was in the Cameron Highlanders and fought in India against the Japanese.  The Japanese were so confident of winning that they even had Japanese Rupee’s printed.  However, the British held them back and the money was never needed.  There was a war memorial built in Kohima to commemorate the dead.

Later on John Borland moved back to Stonehaven, with his young family, to work.
