In the two nights that Clydebank was blitzed (bombed), out of approximately 12,000 houses and buildings, 4,000 were completely destroyed and 4,500 severely damaged – with only seven untouched. 35,000 people were made homeless.
The Singer Sewing Machine Factoy had it’s own home guard so it could be protected if under attack from the Germans. Clydebank was a target as it produced so much ammunition and did so much for the shipping industry.
