Gas Masks
In September 1939, 38 million gas masks we re handed out.
Everyone in the UK was handed out a gas mask in a small cardboard box to protect them from gas bombs.
Gas bombs had been used a lot in World War I and lots of solders had died or had been injured in gas attacks.
It was so powerful that only small amounts needed to be added to weapons like high explosive shells to have devastating effects. |
